One Cold Summer Day

I never wanted to look back.
I tried to forget.
But my mind cannot seem to stop remembering
one of the most heartbreaking seconds of my life.

I am still reminded of the awkward silence between you and me.
The moment that has become my sweetest nightmare.
As I see the coldness in your eyes, and your face turning pale,
all at once it has hit me.
No spoken words are needed.
Cold stillness is all there is,
the warmest response you can give.

Then I walked away with no intention of turning back.
Towards the brightness of the sun,
with thoughts of feeling the warmth I long to feel.
For it is the only answer I can give
on a one cold summer day.
